The Military Emblem of the National Guard is in the shape of a shield and includes an armor in red, which depicts the Country’s defence, and a wheat ear in yellow, typical of the Greek countryside, which are placed upon the blue and white cross of the Greek Flag, the symbol of our Nation, thus highlighting the contribution of the National Guard to our homeland’s defence
On the Emblem is written the Delphic maxim “Defend against Enemies” (Defend against the enemies of the homeland), which belongs to Hilon the Lacedaemonian, a statesman, legislator, philosopher, elegiac poet and one of the seven sages of Antiquity; he lived in the 6th century BC. The famous Delphic maxims are 152 austere quotes, belonging to the seven sages of Ancient Greece and are inscribed on prominent places of the Temple of Apollo, at Delphi.
The Flag of the National Guard is used as its insignia and has three horizontal stripes in red, green and blue, 29 cm wide, and two intermediate thin yellow stripes, 5 cm wide, while at the center it bears the Military Emblem of the National Guard.
